Born Thomas Ralph McWilliams on July 28, 1962 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Robert F. McWilliams and Bertha R. (Stubbs) McWilliams. Tom was raised on the family homeplace, learning the hard work and dedication required of a farmer from an early age. After he graduated from BCL High School, he attended the Iowa State University Farm Operations program.
Tom married the love of his life, Janet Willson, on February 15, 1992 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they kept the farm and raised their family. In addition to his dedication as a life-long farmer, Tom also worked in production for Lynks Seeds from 1992 to 1997 and Mycogen Seeds from 1997 to 2018, followed by Remington Seeds from 2018-2023, where he was Operations Manager.
Tom was incredibly proud of his life as a farmer and kept busy from sun up to sun down. He had a passion for antique tractors and farm equipment and enjoyed restoring them. He was a member of the Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association and the Hardin County Farm Museum. Tom was a Boy Scouts of America troop leader from 2004 to 2010 and served on the church board at First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. He was also a former member of the Iowa Fire Fighters Association and served as Fire Chief before retiring from the Green Mountain Fire Department after dedicating 25 years of volunteer services. In his free time, Tom enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV, especially visiting relatives in Branson, Missouri and tractor rides and shows.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 33 years, Janet; his children: Lynda Mayer-Miell, Kristina Stubbs, and Brandon McWilliams; grandchildren: Journey Miell, Elickxander Verdulla, Dayne and Klein McClory and Aria and Maverick Bibbs; his siblings: Dorothy (Keith) Sheller, Shirley Winders, David McWilliams and Donna (Tom) Martin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In eternal life, he is reunited with his parents, Robert and Bertha McWilliams; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Martha McWilliams; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ada Stubbs; brother-in-law, Terry Winders; sister-in-law, Carla McWilliams and several aunts and uncles.
