Thomas Ward

Thomas Ward, 75, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Unity Point- Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services for Thomas will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Thomas Ward was born on October 19, 1948 in Marshalltown. He was the son of Earl G. and Lois K. (Merrill) Ward. Tom graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1966. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970. Tom was united in marriage to Linda Stonewall on February 16, 1968 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Tom had worked as a mechanic at the Marshalltown RV Center, farming, and drove a tractor-trailer. Tom was an avid Harley-Davidson rider, whether he was riding on his street glide or soft-tail. He enjoyed going on fishing and camping trips, riding snow mobiles and golfing. Tom looked forward to his trips to Ames to go to Sam’s Club or to Old Chicago. He was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and watched NASCAR as well to cheer on the Earnhardt’s.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years, Linda. Children: Shannon (Richard) Leavy of Marshalltown and Brandi (Bob) Zednichek of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Morgan (Jacob) McDaniel, Taylor Duff, Ethan Zednichek and Dalton Zednichek. Great-grandchildren: Lucas McDaniel and Leah McDaniel. Tom is also survived by his sister-in-law: Diana Ward and nephews: Ryan Ward and Travis Ward.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Lois; grandson: Thomas Zednichek; brother: Jim Ward; mother and father-in-law: Manley and Esther Stonewall and a brother in infancy: William Ward.
