Tom Clemons, 73, of Apopka, Florida, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of May 8, 2016 at the Florida Hospital in Apopka, Florida. Graveside services for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Clemons Cemetery with Pastor Keith McDonald officiating. Public visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Toms family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Tom and his family. Thomas Dean Clemons was born on August 31, 1942, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Rex Wayne and Thelma (Norman) Clemons. He was raised in the Clemons area and graduated from Clemons High School class of 1960. Following high school, Tom attended Marshalltown Community College. On October 26, 1963, Tom married the love of his life, Jean Barnard, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Shelly, Jon, Bryan and Jared. He was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for and protect his family. He was employed at Lennox and later at Swifts. He also owned his own tree business. Most recently he owned and managed several rental properties. He enjoyed wood working, writing poems, visiting with classmates and playing cards among other pursuits. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Clemons; children: Shelly (Bruce) Carlson and Jon Clemons; siblings: Jack (Lydia) Clemons, Curt Clemons, Nancy Centofante, Janine Clemons; sister-in-law, Eunice Clemons; brother-in-law, Terry (Irma) Barnard, sister-in-law, Jan (Randy) Barnard Tegtmeier as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents: Rex and Thelma Clemons; two sons: Bryan and Jared Clemons; one brother: Rex Clemons; father-in-law, Gib, and mother-in-law: Charlotte Barnard.
