For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Tom and his family. Tom was born May 25, 1957 to George and Darlene (Harris) Longman, raised in Green Mountain and graduated from Green Mountain High School. He worked for Fisher Controls from 1976 to 1986, and then for Lennox from 1986 until the time of his death. In 1989 he started a small heating and cooling business, but was forced by Lennox to close it in 2006. Toms greatest passions were kids, working in the timber, and rebuilding old houses. He was a really big guy with an even bigger heart - every holiday season he would select a family down on their luck and help them through the holidays in many different ways. To Toms closest friends, he will be most remembered for the Joke of the Day. One of most frequent comments about life was he who dies with the most toys wins. Left to cherish Toms life are his brothers Mike (Sharon) Longman of Texas and Dan (Carol) Longman of Texas; sisters Kate Walker of Marshalltown and Connie Longman of Eldora; a special friend, Jamie Ligh; several nieces and nephews; and Gizmo, his most loyal companion.Preceding him in death were his parents. Memorials may be directed towards the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown, or to Green Mountain Church.
