Tommy Large, 74, of Marshalltown, died in the peace of his home on the afternoon of Thursday, October 24th. Born on April 6th, 1939, in Plano, Iowa, he was the youngest of four sons born to Claude and Eva (King) Large. He attended elementary school in Iowa and when the family moved to southern Iowa, he attended school in Seymour and graduated from the Seymour High Schools Class of 1957. On June 2nd, 1961, he was united in marriage to LeAnne Tasler in Marshalltown. They made their home in Des Moines for a short time where he was employed with AE Dairy and upon moving to Marshalltown he worked at the post office, Marshalltown Fire Department until being injured and was also an incredible house painter. When the family moved to Grundy County in 1979, he and LeAnne owned and operated the Mini-Mart in Conrad where he poured coffee and extensions of the truth! The problems of the world were solved from this downtown store. Later, he worked at Meskwaki until retiring and then Wal-Mart until retiring (again!) in April. Poor Tom was still a little bored, so he was looking for another part-time job at the time of his death. Many will remember him for his passion of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Bears and the BCLUW Comets. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing pool, stock-car races, mushroom hunting and treasured his family. His walls were covered in his condo with pictures of his grandkids and great-grandkids. One proud calling in his life was the unconditional support and love of his military family- his son, son-in-law and grandson who all served our country honorably. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter and her family: Terri (Phil) Huntley of Conrad along with their son Sgt. Daniel (Chelsea) Huntley of Eldora, Jaxson and Logen; daughter Drue Huntley of Conrad along with Madison and Brooklyn; and Stephanie (Cody) Donaldson of Beaman. His son Jeff Large of Tama and his children Ashley, Ryan, Ashlynn, Mikayla and Tanner. Also surviving are his brothers: Jackie (Ruth) Large of Des Moines and Billy Large of Texas and brother-in-law Robert (Linda) Tasler of Marshalltown. In death he rejoined his beloved LeAnne who died suddenly on May 2, 2009, his parents, his baby great-granddaughter Harbor Huntley, brother Jimmy, brother-in-law Richard Tasler and sister-in-law Dawala.
