Tony Jay Roberts

Tony Jay Roberts, 61, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023.

Services for Tony will take place on Saturday, September 2 at 2:30 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 1:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion of the surrounding area. Tony was born on August 4, 1962 in Olean, New York. He was the son of Beverly “Bev” (Allen) and Charles “Skip” Bortz and grew up alongside four siblings. He joined the United States Navy in 1979 and honorably served his country until 1983.

After meeting the love of his life, Stacy Ann Slifer, the couple was married on May 19, 1990 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. It was in Marshalltown where they made their home and where he dedicated his career as lead installer for Fencing Solutions.

Tony spent most of his well-earned free time focused on the family. He absolutely loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed FaceTime with them on a regular basis. Every Friday night he looked forward to going to the races and he adored riding his motorcycle with Stacy wherever the road took them. He also loved fishing with his boys and his brothers. Tony never turned down the opportunity for a nap or an opportunity to pick on you, out of pure love of course.

Tony was selfless and kind, and he made a difference in the lives of all those around him. Tony would help anyone who needed it and cared deeply for everyone. His family deeply grieves the loss of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Their hope is for others to live a life like Tony’s, one that makes an impact and spreads kindness and compassion.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Stacy; his children: Jessica Manship, Tina Roberts, Shelley Coop, Jake Roberts, Joey Roberts and Evan Roberts; nine grandchildren: Eliana Roberts, Emily Roberts, Chase Roberts, Dylan Manship, Daniel Manship, Jesse Lee Manship, Aiden Jacobsen, Jenny Coop and Madilynn Dyer; his siblings: Chuck Roberts, Dave Roberts, Pam Blasetti and Penny Riley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tony is preceded in death by his mother, Bev and stepdad Skip Bortz; his maternal grandparents Harry and Madeline Allen; his niece Angel Schneider and his nephew Andrew Chamberlain.
