Treva Nadeja Adeline Simmons Hays, age 86, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Orchard Park Healthcare in Centennial, Colorado.
Treva was the youngest of six children born to Cleveland Douglas Simmons and Zella Mae Maddy Simmons on November 29, 1937 in Attica, Iowa. She graduated from Attica High in 1956 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked for Banker’s Life, now known as Principal. She lived at Esther Hall before marrying Ronald Jean Hays on February 14, 1960. They were blessed with three children, Douglas James, Ronalea Nadeja and Von Ervin.
The family moved to Marshalltown, IA in 1974 where Ron and Treva established several small businesses before moving to Colorado in 2015. Treva had a great sense of humor, a dedication to her family and a love of reading and crossword puzzles. She was featured in the 1979 Elim Lutheran Cookbook as the sole illustrator. She bestowed many a friend and family member with handmade Swedish Weave blankets to treasure throughout the years amongst being known for her creativity and thoughtful gift giving.
Treva is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; their oldest son, Douglas; her parents and four siblings; Sidney, Chloe, Vean Simmons and Arvonne Van Hemert. Left to cherish her memory are two children and her older sibling, Doran and his wife Bonnie of Sacramento, California. Daughter, Ronalea, and her husband, Brian Alleman, and two sons, Caleb and Eli, live in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Son, Von Hays, his wife, Kristin, live in Lewisville, Texas along with their two children, Henry and Eleanor. Treva will be greatly missed and remembered by several extended family members on both her and Ron’s sides of the family.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 1:30pm at Arising Methodist Church in Lenox, Iowa. Her ashes will be interred next to her husband and son at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Tribute donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
