Velma P. Hanus, 101, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024 at Glenwood Place.
Cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Per the wishes of Velma and her family, there will be no formal services at this time. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Suncrest Hospice in Des Moines. Born Velma Pearl Lindly on July 12, 1923 in Martelle, Iowa, she was the daughter of Archie and Kathryn (Lehr) Lindly. After graduating high school in Martelle, she attended business school in Cedar Rapids. She was blessed with two children and dedicated her life as a devoted mother. Velma worked for Alliant Energy and later as a secretary for Harkers Leasing Company for 10 years before retirement. In 1994, Velma was united in marriage to Dale R. Hanus. The couple cherished their 25 years together before Dale’s passing in 2019 and resided at the Village Coop in Marshalltown. Velma enjoyed cooking, quilting, and gardening. She also had her pilot’s licensed and loved flying.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children: Len (Chris) Dunham of Newton, IA and Lori Dunham of Longmont, CO; four grandchildren: Seth, Tate, Tori and Cali; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In eternal life, Velma is reunited with her husband Dale, her parents Archie and Kathryn and two sisters, Evelyn and Joan.
