Velma Vogel passed quietly at the Veterans Home on August 3, 2026
Velma was born to Walter Myron Simmons and Odette Louise Claude on May 20, 1934 in Woolstock Iowa. She proudly served her country during the Korean War as a medic. She took that sense of discipline and care into daycare, and spent her professional life caring for those too young to care for themselves. She married Ellsworth Vogel on November 29, 1968. Velma enjoyed completing puzzles, reading, especially her Bible, making crafts, and absolutely loved the Veterans Home.
Velma is survived by her daughter Nancy Meyers, granddaughter Carla Meyers, great-granddaughter Amira Meyers, great-grandson Jaden Meyers, great-grandson Zachary Meyers, sister Kathy, sister Frieda, sister Linda, brother Walter, and brother Wesley (Jackie).
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ellsworth Vogel, her son David Sampson, her sister Darlene, and her sister Betty.
Velma lived a rare life, and will be missed deeply.
