Claudine Hofert

August 21, 1932 — June 7, 2025

Vera “Claudine” Hofert, age 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa was greeted with a family reunion when she entered into the gates of Heaven on Saturday June 7, 2025 at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown surrounded by her family.


At this time, cremation rites have been accorded and a private family led graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Claudine’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Vera Claudine Terry was born August 21, 1932 in Lowry City, Missouri. She was one of seven children born to Claude Terry and Leona (Doyle) Smith. At an early age, Claudine and her family moved from Lowry City to Iowa and took up residence in the Green Mountain and Montour area. She attended school in Montour.


Claudine was married to Robert Conner and the two had one daughter, Deana. They later divorced and she was then united in marriage to Dale Hofert. From their union they had five children, Shirley, Dale, Mike, Ed and Kim. They were able to have many happy years together until Dale’s passing. She met Charlie Buchwald and the two became life partners. Together they operated Charlie’s Bar where Claudine was loved by many and friend to all. They had celebrated 25 years together at the time of Charlie’s passing. Claudine was once again married to John Quillen but had only just begun their marriage when he had passed suddenly.


Claudine was faithful and was an attendee of Center Street Baptist Church as well as First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. In her hobbies while not having many she spent so much time caring for her yard making sure that things were perfect and that the flower gardens were carefully tended to. She was an avid animal lover and had numerous animals over the years including her current dog, Precious. She was known for being a mother figure to many people and was always very generous in her giving.


Claudine is survived by her children, Deana Linhart, Shirley Brawner, Dale (Marilyn) Hofert, Mike (Debbie) Hofert, Ed (Betsy Mills) Hofert and Kim (Randy Daniel) Cowan; her grandchildren, Kay, Jeffery (Jennifer), Xavier, Dylan (Rachel), Joshua (Tracy), Brandi, Cathy, Michael (Sheena), Nathan, Wesley, Shaun, Jessica, Charlie (Malissa) and Libby; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Dustin Charles Hofert, Troy Brawner, Melissa Cowan, Shawna Hofert; great-granddaughter, Shelby; parents, Claude Terry and Leona Smith; and her siblings, Pauline, Juanita, Virginia, Mary, Delbert and Robert.
