Vera Mahoney

Vera Mahoney, 93, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, January 7, at the Villa del Sol. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, January 11, at the Riverside Cemetery. Ph: 641-844-1234.Born Vera Carter on October 31, 1918, in Lakefield, Minnesota, she was the daughter of William and Elsie (Ostwald) Carter. She graduated from the Wells High School and Wells College. Vera was united in marriage to Edward Francis Mahoney. They resided in Marshalltown where she was employed making airplane instruments in WWII at Marshalltown Instruments and later retired from the Marshall County Courthouse after 13 years in the tax department.Vera treasured her family and enjoyed reading, doing crosswords, hunting and fishing with Edward and made the best apple pie.Left to cherish her memory are her only daughter, Joan Griggs of Marshalltown, four grandchildren; Brian Edward Griggs, Kevin Christopher (Dianne) Griggs and Curt Allen (Amber) Griggs all of Marshalltown and Amber Marie (Rik) Griggs Relph of Garwin, eight great-grandchildren; Kayle Marie Griggs, Emily Relph, Bryton Griggs, Kira Griggs, Skyler Evans, Ashley Griggs, Brandon Griggs and Lexi Evans.In death, she rejoined her parents, brothers Harold, Don and Lloyd; husband Edward in 1967, and son-in-law Carl Griggs.
