Vern B. Crookshank, 85, of LeGrand, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family by his side. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where Vern’s family will be present to greet friends and family.  Funeral services for Vern will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Webster officiating.  In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Vern’s name to his family, which will be designated to Iowa River Hospice.  For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Vern and his family. Vern Benjamin Crookshank was born on January 15, 1932 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Ruby (Moore) Crookshank.  He was raised and educated in the LeGrand School District, graduating from LeGrand High School with the class of 1951.  Following high school, Vern honorably served his country by serving in the United States Army. On June 12, 1955, Vern was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dolores Waterman at the LeGrand Friends Church.  From this union four children were born: Jeffrey, Lisa, Kerry and Jean.  Vern worked at Fisher Controls doing many different things for them during his time there.  He also owned and operated LeGrand Sanitation for many years.  Vern had a passion for building model cars and semis, collecting Clydesdales, sitting on his deck and loved talking to anyone about anything.  Vern never did know a stranger. Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Dolores; children: Jeffrey (Tina) Crookshank, Lisa (Lewis) Oglevie, Kerry (Doug) Whitmore and Jean (John) Bourne; grandchildren: Dan Whitmore, Anna (Travis) Vaughn, Tabatha (Nick) Goodrich, Isaiah (Aryn) Davis, Emily (Stephen) Pieroni, Caleb (Molli) Davis, Grant Oglevie, Kaylenna Bourne and Elizabeth Oglevie; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings: Kathleen (Ray) Bjelland and Edwin (Lina) Crookshank. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a still born son: Brent Allen, a grandson: Tyler Crookshank; a sister: Alice Jordan and brother: Dean (Sharee) Crookshank.
