Verne Johnson, 61, of Marshalltown, (VJ the DJ), went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, September 16, in the comfort of his home. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Sheri and all of the staff of Iowa Hospice and the Liberty Baptist Church family whom embraced Verne during this last journey. They are all proof there are angels among us. uneral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Mason officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors in the Rector Cemetery at Chelsea. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to his family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on February 9, 1950, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, he was the son of Silas and Luella (Baer) Johnson. He graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1968 and later MCC. Verne served our country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 and was stationed in Turkey. Verne was the owner and operator of Celebrations Productions in Marshalltown and provided sound and computer tech for area events including weddings, anniversaries, Oktemberfest, etc. as well as his wife Lindas musical talents. On July 4, 1998, he was united in marriage to Linda Behounek (the girl of his dreams and the love of his life) and with this marriage; he gained a family of five children. They joined his daughter Joni to create their new family.Left to celebrate his memory are Linda, his loving wife of 13 years, his daughter Joni (Mark) Medhus and their children Megan and Jenna all of Aurora, CO. Lindas children: Tiffany DeLarme (Jordan) and her children Amara and Rylee; Seth Morrow; Rachel (Tatum) Morrow; Colton Evanese and her children Rhiannon and Scarlett; Alanna Morrow (Matthew) and her son Jayden and his son Carter; Gabby Morrow (Cody) and her daughter Myrna, his father-in-law Russell Behounek of rural Chelsea, brother Londell (Ellen) Johnson of Melbourne and sister Lorena (Don) Steen of Marshalltown, brother-in-law Lyle Behounek of Tama, sister-in-law Deb (Sherman Skeet) White of Toledo as well as many, many friends. Vernes motto with the grandchildren was to spoil them, feed them sugar and send them home!In death, Verne rejoined his sister Ilean Smith, his parents, mother-in-law Myrna Behounek and his faithful Pomeranian companion of 14 years, DJ.
