Vernice Paul

Vernice Paul, 94, of the Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, died early Sunday morning, March 23rd, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 28th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with her grandson, Shawn Paul, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Born Vernice Rust on June 3, 1919, near Green Castle, Sullivan County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Irvin and Annie (Coffman) Rust. She received her education in many areas in her young life since her dad traveled as a farmhand. On May 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to Delmar Paul in Unionville, Missouri. They made Marshalltown their home where she raised her family until his death in May of 1960. She then began working at Mercy Hospital in the laundry department working her way up to head of housekeeping. Vernice was a member of the former Grace EUB/United Methodist Church. Many will remember her love of her family and any events with them from sports games to her famous chicken and noodle dinners. She enjoyed baking, cooking, traveling to and with her sisters and enjoying a good book (especially Louis LaMour) until the early morning hours. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dennis (Peggy) Paul of Des Moines, David (Nancy) Paul of Conrad and Donna (Michael) McClintock of LeGrand; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one-great-great-grandson and her sisters- Lucille (Charles) Boyd of Marshalltown and Ruth (the late Louis) Spaccamonti of Pueblo, CO, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, she rejoined her husband, her parents and brothers Bill and Delbert Rust as well as in-laws Jessie and Clarence Paul.
