Vernice Valentine, 70, of Beaman, passed away at her home Tuesday, November 9, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Vernice will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 12 at the Beaman United Methodist Church with Pastor Hyeunmee Kang officiating. Visitation for Vernice will be held from 5:00 7:00 PM at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, where her family will be present to greet friends and family. Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to her family. She grew up in Parkersburg, Iowa and graduated from the Parkersburg High School. Vernice was united in marriage to Melvin Valentine on December 2, 1960, at the Aplington Reformed Church. During her lifetime Vernice worked at Plastronics in Grundy Center, was a cook at the Beaman Elementary School, worked at Wolf-Creek Woodworking and retired in 2005 from the Farmers Savings Bank. Vernice enjoyed Christmas shopping for her grandkids and enjoyed planting flowers, birdhouses, going out to eat with friends and barn dancing. Vernice was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church.Vernice is survived by her husband Melvin of Beaman, her son Brian (Denise)Valentine and their children Heather and Tyson of Ankeny, her daughter Candace (Ian) Frerichs and their son Scott of Grundy Center, her three sisters: Wilma Adelmund of Gladbrook, Dorothy Adelmund of Conrad, and Lourine (Marlyn) Pruis of Grundy Center.Vernice was preceded in death by her parents Verb and Edna Syhlman, her brother Fred Syhlman and her sister Tina Benning.
