Vernon Clapsaddle, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, January 21, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services for Vernon will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial with military honors will follow services at the Liscomb Cemetery. Visitation for Vernon will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. Vernon was born November 25, 1925, the second son of George Sheryl and Martha Clapsaddle who farmed near Liscomb, Iowa. He also farmed near there most of his working years. Vernon married Betty Smith of Marshalltown in December of 1945 and to this union five children were born. They later divorced in March of 1966. Vernon then married Lorraine Spencer of Marshalltown in 1968 and to this union one child was born. Vernon owned and operated the Yellow Cab Company for many years in addition to farming in the Liscomb area. Vernon honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from January of 1946 until June of 1947 earning the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Vernon enjoyed bowling and crossword puzzles. Vernon is survived by his children: Charles (Barb) Clapsaddle of Marshalltown, Ronald (Kathy) Clapsaddle of San Diego, California, Richard Clapsaddle of Merriam Woods, Missouri, Beverley (Burt) Clover of Marshalltown, Barbara (Jim) Duncan of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Mike Clapsaddle of Marshalltown, his 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Loren Clapsaddle, and his grandsons Charles Charlie Vernon Clapsaddle III, and Jason James Clapsaddle.
