Vernon Jones

Vernon Jones, 90, of Clemons, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of October 16, 2022 at Grandview Heights surrounded by his loving family.

Vernon Wilbur Jones was born November 19, 1931 to parents Wilbur “Willy” and Edna (Tucker) Jones in State Center, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Clemons, Iowa and graduated from Clemons High School in 1949. In 1952, Vernon enlisted with the United States Army where he served our country and was later honorably discharged.

On January 13, 1952, Vernon was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane Gill. Together they called Clemons their home and began a family raising six boys. Vernon was a lifelong farmer and worked his land year after year. In addition to farming, Vernon worked many years at Bob’s Feed in Marshalltown. Vernon and Jane achieved 59 years of marriage together until Jane’s passing in 2011.

Vernon was a member of the Elk’s Lodge of Marshalltown. In his free time, he loved to tinker in the garage, go antiquing, take camping trips, attend auctions, collect gas engines and marbles, and go for rides on his Harley Davidson in his early years.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Bob (Beverly) Jones, Bill (Cindy) Jones, Brian (Jana) Jones, Barry (Kindra) Jones, and Brad (Linda) Jones; his daughter-in-law Michelle Frye; his niece Jola Jupin; his Gill and Swihart nephews;  his many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Carmen Gill.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jane; his son Ben “Bonzo” Jones; his parents Wilbur and Edna Jones; Jane's parents, Tony and Alma Gill; his sister Ellamae (Jerry) Ulery; his grandson Kyle Jones and granddaughter Lynn Waltman; his nephew Jerome Ulery; his sister-in-law Dorothy (Donny) Swihart; and his brother-in-law William Gill.
