Veronica Jay

Veronica Jay, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of February 21, 2020, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her family at her side. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish: Saint Henry Church at 10:30 a.m. A public visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or an organization for the betterment of mental health of the donor’s choice. Veronica Frances Bulanek was born February 29, 1932 to parents James and Helen (Musil) Bulanek at her home in Marshalltown. She was one of twelve children. She attended school in Marshalltown and graduated from Saint Mary Catholic School in the class of 1950. On June 10, 1953, Veronica was united in marriage to her husband Bobbie Jay at Saint Mary Catholic Church. The two began a family having six children. She worked at Saint Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown before leaving to take a job at Fisher Governor where she remained until April of 1954 leaving the job to raise their family. In 1980 Veronica worked for the Marshalltown Community School District and worked in the food service program until her retirement in 2000. Veronica was a longtime member of Saint Henry Catholic Church, the Holy Family Study Club, and A.C.C.W. In her free time, she would spend her time with her family, attend card clubs, go to lunches with friends, and tend to her yardwork and garden. She gave her heart to everyone she met and loved everybody. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Lawrence Jay, Dennis Jay, Teri (Greg) Wilson, Barbara Jay, Steven (Erin Toot) Jay, and Karen Jay; her grandchildren Jamie (Stewart) Gardner, Jeff (Maggie) Wilson, Jaleb Jay, and Jacoby Jay; two great-grandchildren Collin and Courtney Wilson; and her siblings Ruth Needham, Evelyn Talbert, Bernedette Overman, and Bernard Bulanek; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobbie, her parents James and Helen Bulanek, and her siblings Harold, Catherine, Josephine, Leo, Dorothy, Joseph, and Lawrence.
