Vicki J. Underhill

Vicki Jo Underhill, age 74, of Le Grand, passed away under the care of hospice at The Willows of Marshalltown.

A family led graveside service has been scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, starting at 11:00 A.M. at the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. After the burial, there will be a Celebration of Life at the LeGrand Public Park- Monet Center from 11:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. (A meal will be provided). Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Vicki and her family.

Vicki Jo Wilkens was born on June 6, 1951 in Marshalltown to Jim and Betty (Boyenga) Wilkens both of Marshalltown. She was one of four sisters. She was a graduate of Marshalltown High School Class of 1969.

In 1970, she gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Joni Johnson. They lived together in Gilman for a short time then later in Marshalltown. On February 14, 1988, she married the love of her life and longtime friend, Denny Underhill. He brought into her life his two children, Kimberly and Kelly. Together Vicki and Denny made their home in Le Grand and had a condo at Table Rock Lake. They loved traveling together to several places including Minnesota, Florida, Mississippi, Indiana, Colorado and California. Her most favorite place was her home at Table Rock with her family, so much so, that she and Denny would winter there after their retirement and would entertain family in the summer months showing them the entertainment in Branson and boating on the lake.

Vicki had incredible work ethic and always had several jobs to ensure her family was well taken care of. She was employed by Northwestern Bell right out of high school for six years in Marshalltown and later transferred to Tampa Bay. Later she moved back to Marshalltown and worked for Kari Henning Real Estate for several years, also Best Western Regency as a night manager. Shortly after she made her career as a pharmacy tech at Drugtown for 18 years until she needed to retire due to her illness.

Vicki was a big animal lover and together her and Denny had three beloved dogs, Katie, Jake and Cody. They all three became her emotional support pets.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her husband, Denny, of 38 years. Her daughter Joni (Mark) Medhus, daughter, Kimberly Schnathorst and son Kelly (Amy) Underhill. Grandchildren Megan and Jenna Medhus, Brett (Kylea) Schnathorst, Morgan (Brandon) Thorn and Brock and Bailey Underhill. Seven Great Grandchildren. Two sisters, DeAnne Knaack and Nancy (Dan) Slocum. Several nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law, Duane (Denise) Underhill and sisters-in-law, Sandy Anderson, Cathy Underhill, Sheryl Underhill and Jeannie Underhill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty; her sister, Susan Bristly; niece, Tena Johnson; brothers-in-law, Bob Underhill, Tom Underhill, Lenny Underhill, Vernon Underhill, Jack Baker, and Bill Knaack; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Jean Ridout, Juanita Gile, Marlene Baker, Shirly Johns and Carol Adams; alongside her three beloved pets.
