V. Grace Davis, age 85, of Marshalltown, passed away on the morning of Sunday, June 4th, at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Center School Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Born Viola Grace Onthank on May 17th, 1938, near Grinnell, she was the daughter of Edward and Ollie (Phipps) Onthank. She attended country schools and the Grinnell Public Schools.

On July 21st, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Marvin Davis at the Old Grove Church. Grace was employed at the Iowa Veterans Home in housekeeping as well as independent housekeeping in the community. She was also employed at the DeJong Jacket Factory and Swift Greenhouses. It was always a great day when ice cream was involved, baseball was being played and a dog was at her side. Country music from the 50’s and 60’s always soothed her heart and soul.

Grace enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, shopping, going out to eat with friends and drove a stock car in the powder puff race at the Marshalltown Speedway.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gloria (Dennis) Carkhuff and Jeff (Brenda) Davis; grandchildren- Danielle, Kim, Amy, Amanda, Jesse and Jaime; great-grandchildren- Ryan, Sebastian, Dakotah, Natalie, Naomi, Katie, Keaton, Mia, Aiden, Riley and Willow as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In death, she rejoined her beloved Marvin who died in 2015, her parents, children: Lester Davis and Donna Sloat and sisters: Rose Johnson, Elsie May VanGorp, Mildred Claybrook, Darlene Hamor, Irene Kester, Molly Saunders and Mary Dorie Onthank in infancy.
