Viola Shollenbarger

Viola Shollenbarger, age 93, of Marshalltown, left this earthly life on the morning of Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Viola will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the beginning of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Viola’s family for a later designation. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Viola and her family.          Born Viola Korte on January 22nd, 1927, in Florissant, MO., she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Lake) Korte.  She received her education in St. Patrick’s School in Wentzville, MO. She continued her love of caring for others as a nursing assistant at the Marshalltown hospital until her retirement in 1991.          On Christmas day of 1944, she was married to the love of her life, Harold Shollenbarger. They made their home in Marshalltown until his passing on August 21st, 1975. The couple was blessed with two children- Stephen and Beverly.          Mrs. Shollenbarger was a member of St. Francis parish-St. Mary’s Church in Marshalltown.          Left to cherish her memory is her children, Stephen (Diana) Shollenbarger of Clear Lake, IA and Beverly (Tom) Kyllingstad of Ft. Collins, CO; her grandson Mark Shollenbarger and great-grandson Drake Shollenbarger as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.          In death, Viola rejoined her beloved Harold, her parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
