Violet Dougherty, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Grandview Heights. Funeral services for Violet will be held at11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Ankrum officiating. Public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until services begin at 11:00 a.m. where her family will be present to greet friends. Born Violet Dee, on November 27, 1926, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mable (Dudley) Dee. She was raised and educated the Marshalltown School District. Violet was blessed to be married to her best friend, Tom Dougherty, for twenty five years before he passed away. She was a homemaker. Violets passions were gardening, animals, feeding the birds, fishing, taking long car rides, and going out to eat, especially on Saturdays. Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: Martha (Dick) Rhodes, Joyce (Mark) Ankrum, Dale (Deb) Shepard, and Gene (Linda) Shepard. She will also be remembered by all of her family and great friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, one nephew, Clarence, and her brothers and sisters.
