Virgie Lee Wilkins (John) Gooch passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Premier Estates of Toledo nursing home at the age of 96.
Virgie was born on June 20, 1927; she was the daughter of Virgil and Herma Wilkins. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband: John and five brothers: Charles, Cleveland, Curtis, Alexander (AC) and Claude and four sisters: Francis Wilkins, Ruth Wilkins Stenson, Gladys Wilkins Childress and Gloria Wilkins; nephews: Ronnie Gist and Eric Woods and niece: Jenise Wyatt. She is survived by two brothers: Josh (JC) Wilkins and Cornelius (Corny) Wilkins and one sister: Yvonne Wilkins (Lincoln) Woods and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virgie moved to Marshalltown from Paducah, Kentucky in 2005 and began working in the Marshalltown school system with the foster grandparent program with the children she loved and enjoyed. She attended the 2nd Baptist Church in Marshalltown and was a short term resident of the Embers assisted living facility, where with her friendly outgoing personality; she made numerous new friends before moving to Premier Estates. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, tailoring, cooking, jigsaw puzzles, reading her Bible and singing her favorite hymns.
Virgie’s ashes will be returned to Paducah, Kentucky to be reunited with her beloved husband, John in eternal rest in their crypt at Woodlawn Hills Memorial Gardens.
