Virgil LeRoy Judge was born at home on December 13, 1926, in Rural Garwin. He was the son of Samuel and Elva (Richards) Judge, and he was the youngest of 8 children. He attended Whippoorwill Country School and Garwin High School. After High school he farmed with his father. Virgil served our Country Honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 1951 to December 1952. On June 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Hennesy at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three sons and one daughter were born: Brian, Dennis, and Gary, and Brenda. After his parents passed, Virgil purchased the farm. Later he rented the crop ground but kept the pasture to raise cattle until his health failed. He also worked at Pioneer Hybrid, Lorensen and Beale Elevator, and then Garwin Lumber until he retired. Virgil was saved as a young man at Carlton Brethren Church where he and his family attended until 1978, then joining Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown. He was also a member of American Legion in Garwin. Virgil loved the Lord, his Church, family and friends, and was never happier than when he could play ball, baseball, softball, football or volleyball. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed music, cattle and a good laugh. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Beverly. Sons: Brian (Cindy Bryant) Judge and Gary (Tammy Harris) Judge all of Marshalltown, Iowa; and daughter: Brenda (Herk) Schmidt of Reinbeck, Iowa. Grandsons: Daniel, Kelly and Aaron Judge, Darin and Austin Schmidt; a sister, Bertha DeFrance of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews. In death Virgil rejoins his parents, Samuel and Elva; brothers, Lewis, Walter, Richard, Lawrence, and Henry; sister, Gertrude Kerr; son, Dennis, in 1987; nephews: Loren, Darwin, and Bobby; and niece, Lelia.
