Virginia Davis, 82, of Marshalltown, died Friday afternoon, August 24th, at the Grandview Heights while in their care and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 28th, at the First Friends Church with Pastors Craig and Judy Marshall officiating. Born Virginia Brees on April 17th, 1925, in Marshalltown, she was one of five children and the only daughter born to Sereno and Lottie May (Moore) Brees. She graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1943. On December 2nd, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Davis in Marshalltown. They made their home in Marshalltown where she worked at Fishers and Coopers before moving to Kansas, California and Nebraska before returning to Marshalltown and then being employed at Kresges and Tru-Valu. Mrs. Davis was a member of the First Friends Church, the Mary Anna Circle of the church, served on many funeral and social lunch committees, the Red Hat Society and volunteered at the Marshall County Voting Polls. She treasured her family and enjoyed music- especially the orchestra and symphony, singing, sewing, playing bingo, and recently took up painting. Virginia was awarded Best in Show at the Marshall County Fair 2007 and also received many ribbons for other paintings. Left to celebrate her life are her children: Carol (Dennis) Kirby of Malcom, Laura (Larry) Rinehart of Ankeny, Bill (Jan) Davis of Liscomb, and Sue (Chad) Fellmer of Cedar Falls, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her brothers: Frank (Marilyn) Brees of Marshalltown, Paul (Darlene) Brees of Marshalltown and James (Sally) Brees of Detroit, Michigan, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death, she has rejoined her parents, her beloved husband of 61 years, William who died June 11th, of this year, and a brother, Raymond Brees.
