Virginia Kelley

Virginia Kelley, age 94, passed away August 27, 2025 in Marshalltown.

Per her wishes there will be no visitation or services. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Her wish to be cremated has been entrusted to the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Virginia was born on August 8, 1931 in Marshall County. The daughter of Wesley and Eleanore (Hayne) Gile. She received her education in the Marshalltown area. Graduating from LaMoille Consolidated School.

She was united in marriage to Keith Kelley in Lincoln, Nebraska. They always made their home in the Marshalltown area. Virginia worked in the recorder’s office in the courthouse, Montgomery Ward, Villa Del Sol and her favorite and most important job, mother and wife.

She enjoyed gardening and being outside and always had a pup with her even if she had to kidnap the neighbor’s dog, Chip who was her most faithful companion.

Left to mourn her loss are her beloved children: son, Shawn Kelley, daughter, Kathleen Kelley-Hafen, son-in-law: Keith Hafen who she claimed was her favorite child and Honorary daughter, Mary Pothast.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Keith in 2003, her parents, her sister, Ilda Kay and brothers Bill and Avery Gile.
