Virginia Van Metre

Virginia Van Metre, 91, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center with members of her family at her side. A Celebration of Life for Virginia will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial bench at the cemetery or for a favorite charity. Virginia Bogue was born on September 13, 1924 in New Providence, Iowa to Arthur and Frances Bogue. Virginia graduated from State Center High School in 1942. She subsequently graduated from Chillicothe School of Business in Chillicothe, Missouri on September 2, 1951. Virginia was united in marriage to Boyd Van Metre in State Center, Iowa. They were married 58 years prior to his passing in 2009. She was employed in both Marshalltown and State Center as a medical office receptionist. In her retirement years she assisted her son, Fred, at the Van Metre Auction Company. She enjoyed reading and collecting antiques. Virginia was a dedicated farmers wife and mother. Her strong work ethic was a model to her family. She was well liked by the patients at the medical offices and the patrons of the auction company. She remained a pleasant and kind woman until her passing. Virginia is survived by her children: Terri Hannan of Marshalltown and her children John (fiance Kathy), Luke (friend Erin), Erin Kelley ( Daniel) , Mark and Matthew ( friend Dana) as well as Fred (Nancy) Van Metre and their children Madelyn (fianc Andrew), Matthew( friend Gabby) and Mark Virginia is also survived by great grandchildren, Quinn, Cormick and Nolan Kelley. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Frances. Sisters: Betty Eland and Barbara Townsend. Brothers: Warren Gene and Richard Bogue and granddaughter Rebecca Rae Hannan.
