Virginia (Shore) Sloat

Virginia Sloat, age 89, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday night, July 9th, at the Willows of Marshalltown.

Virginia was born on August 2, 1936, in Union, Iowa, the daughter of Calvin Rockett and Cora Lee (Motsinger) Shore. She graduated from Fullerton High School in California in 1954. On September 3rd, 1960, she was united in marriage to Charles Sloat at the Baptist Temple in Marshalltown. They farmed southeast of Ferguson until moving to Marshalltown in 1993. Virginia was employed at the law offices of Welp-Harrison-Brennecke and Moore at the Masonic Temple in Marshalltown for many years.

Left to cherish her memory are three children- Brenda (Kevin) Severson of Marshalltown, Chad (Laura) Sloat of Mt. Pleasant and Amy Jolene Sloat of Marshalltown; her grandchildren- Emily (Peter) Bowles, Alaina (Brandon) Goldman, Mason, Maximus and Isabella Sloat and Jacquelyn (Ryan) Schreiner; great-grandchildren- Bennett Bowles, Paige Goldman, Jack Bowles, Leo Goldman, Scarlett Schreiner and Myles and Kennedy Goldman as well as many family and friends and sister-in-law, Betty Shore.

In death, Virginia rejoined her beloved Chuck, parents, brothers Arthur Lawrence “Red” Shore, Oscar Gene (Barbara) Shore, sister Martha (Lowell) Keeler and was able to take the hand of her son Douglas, who passed away at nine years old.

Funeral services for Virginia have been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2026 starting at 11:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 10-11:00 A.M., prior to the service, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
