Vita Plavets, 75, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial for Vita will be held Thursday, December 30, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Interment will follow services at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a public Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and vigil to follow. Vita was raised and educated in Tama and graduated from the Tama High School. Following high school graduation Vita attended the School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa and then later graduated from the Marshalltown School of Nursing. On April 25, 1959, Vita was united in marriage to Warren Plavets at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Tama, Iowa. To this union one son, Kenneth was born. Throughout her nursing career Vita served her community as a Registered Nurse at several Marshalltown clinics, doctors offices and the Marshalltown Hospital. Vita retired from nursing in 1998. She enjoyed collecting objects of art glass and traveling across the United States in a motor home with her longtime companion Don Curphy. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church.Vita is survived by her son Ken Plavets of Atlanta, Georgia, her longtime companion Don Curphy of Marshalltown, her former daughter-in-law Marchand Plavets of Dallas, Texas, her sister Anna (Dale) Stuckenbruk of Cedar Rapids, her brother Sam (Bettie) Miceli of Arcadia, California, her sister-in-law Esther (the late Jim) Miceli of Cedar Rapids, her sister-in-law Myrna (John) Whittaker of Washington, Iowa, her granddaughter Katherine (Scott) Atchison of Dallas, Texas, her grandaughter Kelly (Robb) Welch of Fort Worth, Texas, her two great-grandchildren Ava and Maxx, and several nieces and nephews.Vita was preceded in death by her parents Cologero & Dia, her husband Warren and her brother Jim.
