Wade Baker, age 44, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on August 19, 2015, in Waynesville, North Carolina. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, 29th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. until the service time. Memorials may be made to Paws & Effect, a non-profit organization that raises, trains, and places service dogs with children and veterans with disabilities, P.O. Box 41442, Des Moines, Iowa 50311 and Warrior Clan of WNC, P.O. Box 8, Hazelwood, NC 28738. A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Darrell Gene and Candace (Brown) Baker. Wade was a US Army veteran of the first Gulf War where he received the Bronze Star with Valor for acts of heroism. He later served in tours of both Macedonia and Bosnia. He was a member of the American Legion Post 47 and VFW Post 891 in Asheville. Wade had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends. Wade will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his valiant service to his country and his love of family. Left to mourn his loss are his parents, Darrell and Candy Baker of Marshalltown, he is survived by his wife of 11 years, Michelle Baker; his children- Dana, Kayla, Mason, Nick, Jack, Kobi, Kyla, Tanner and Gage; granddaughter Madelyn; his sister, Laura Thomas of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandparents Wayne and Jerry Brown, and his loyal service dog, Honor. In death, Wade rejoined his grandpa and grandma Baker.
