Walter E. Henschke, 89, of Marshalltown, died early Sunday, July 19, 2009, at MMSC surrounded by his family. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be at 10: 30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2009, at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family. Walter Ernst Henschke was born on September 28, 1919, in Forst, Germany. He was the son of Ernst and Frida (Rontke) Henschke. He attended primary school in Germany and went on to trade school to be a meat cutter. He served 4 years in the German Navy and was a POW in England for 4 years. On June 13, 1942, Walter married Wilhelmina Van Duinen at The Hague, Netherlands. The couple emigrated to the United States in May of 1952. Walt worked at Hilleman Packing Plant for 7 years, Marshall Pack for 3 years, Borden Dairy for 10 years, and Lennox for 14 years. He was a member of UAW Local 893. He loved animals and was a constant bird watcher. Walts memory will be honored by his children, Regina (David) Hatch of Valley, NE, Peter (Carol) Henschke of Annapolis, MD, and Annie (Douglas) Husak of Conrad; his grandchildren, Josh Hatch, Jessica (Jerrod) Williams, and Tiffany Husak; and his great-grandchildren, Trenton Hatch and Rowan Williams. In death, he has rejoined his wife, Wilhelmina; his brother, Herbert Henschke, and his son, Harold Henschke, who died in infancy.
