Walter Judge, 98, of Marshalltown, died Saturday morning, January 15, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center while in their care and that of Care initiatives Hospice.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on October 9, 1912, in Indian Township, Tama County, Iowa, he was the son of Samuel S. and Elva (Richards) Judge. He attended the Whippoorwill Country Schools.On September 22, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Jordan at the Carlton Brethren Church at rural Garwin. Walter farmed and later retired from Fisher Governor and had also been a part-time groundskeeper at Elmwood Country Club.He will be fondly remembered for his quiet kindness - always willing to help others. He enjoyed playing violin, yard work, woodworking, dancing, and all kinds of music. He often shared stories of his youth which included riding his pony to school, visiting neighbors and family with a bobsled in the wintertime and farming with teams of horses. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Barbara L. Long of Waukee, Nancy ((Denny)Lanning of Melbourne, and Sherry Eggers of Des Moines, his grandchildren: Jeffrey T. (Annette) Lanning, Jerry D. (Laure) Lanning, Christine Long, Michael (Anne) Long and Cindy (Kevin) Partlow; and his great-grandchildren- Julie, Nick and Megan Lanning; Candice, Charles and Melanie Long; Jack, Emily and Travis Partlow. Also surviving are his brothers Richard Judge of the Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown and Virgil Judge of rural Garwin, sister Bertha DeFrance in Davenport and many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Walter rejoined his beloved wife Mary, son Robert W. Judge, sister Gertrude Kerr and brothers Lawrence, Lewisand Henry.
