Wanda Rose Ritter

Wanda R. Ritter, 85, longtime resident of LeGrand, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Wanda take place Saturday, March 2 (note date) at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Open Bible Church. A visitation will be one hour prior beginning at 1:00 P.M. She will be laid to rest at LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Wanda and her family. Born Wanda Rose Brown on August 10, 1938 in Seymour, Iowa, she was the daughter John W. and Esther C. (Grisemore) Brown. She graduated from high school in Seymour in 1955 and later attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology, graduating in 1971. After meeting the love of her life, Richard Ritter, the couple was united in marriage on March 7, 1957 in Seymour. They were blessed with four sons and made their home in LeGrand, Iowa. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, Wanda worked at several nursing homes over the years, including Iowa Veterans Home and Westwood Care Facility. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football fan and also liked listening to music, especially country.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Richard “Rick” Lavern Ritter, Jr. of LeGrand, Iowa, and Terry Joe Ritter of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Richard Ritter III, Felicia Ritter and Melesia Ritter, all of Marshalltown; great-grandchildren: Richard, Eric, Emma, Alec, Wyatt, William, Reagan, Xania, and Yasman; and several nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Wanda is reunited with her husband Richard Sr., two beloved sons: David Eugene (deceased at birth) and Rodney Lavern (passed in 2005), her parents John and Esther Brown, and her siblings: John “Junior” Brown, Willa Mae Faris and Gerald Eugene Brown.
