Wayne Caster, 75, longtime Union businessman, died Friday afternoon, August 19, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, at the Union Community Church with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Union Cemetery with military honors by the Union American Legion Harry Crow Post #255. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Union Pool Slide fund or St. Henrys Catholic School in Marshalltown. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on May 24, 1936, at the family home east of Eldora, he was the youngest child born to Everett and Orpha (Carter) Caster. He graduated from the Union High School in 1952. Beginning at the age of 18, he served our country honorably in the United States Air Force for four years including one year stationed at a RADAR station in Alaska.On March 1, 1963, he was united to Becky Bernard in Omaha. Union has been home to the Casters where they owned and operated Waynes AG Market, Casters Meats and the Union Supper Club. He was a passionate supporter of the Union community. Wayne was a member of the Union Community Church, South Hardin Rec. Center, and American Legion Post #255 and will be fondly remembered for his love of family, fishing and hunting, being a happy-go-lucky type of guy that would do anything for you. He was also a licensed pilot. Left to cherish his memory are Becky, his loving wife of 48 years, son Curt (Teresa) Caster and their children Anthony, Amanda and Reylynn all of Wichita, Kansas and Kelley (Paul) Oetker and their children Jaymee and Hayden all of Marshalltown, sisters- Reva (Ludwig) Dostal of Toledo and Betty (Art) Posusta of Tama, brother Roy (Anna) Caster of Union, sisters-in-law Ila and Ardis Caster as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Wayne rejoined his parents, sister Margaret Sanders and brothers Wendell (Janet), Jim and Ray (at 6 months of age).
