Wayne Herbert Meyer

Wayne Herbert Meyer, 81, of Marshalltown, died early Tuesday, April 15th, at the Villa Del Sol Nursing Home.Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Riverside Cemetery. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234.Born on July 26, 1926, in Denver, CO, he was the son of Herman and Alma (Freres) Meyer. He graduated from Kansas City-Southwest High School and attended Northwestern University in Chicago. He served in the United States Air Force from 1945-1947 in Italy. On June 7, 1947, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Humpidge in Chicago. During their marriage, the couple lived in Chicago, Michigan City, IN, and Marshalltown. Wayne was employed at Dunham-Bush in Marshalltown. He volunteered at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center as a greeter, which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of the YMCA in Marshalltown. Wayne was one of the founders of Little League in Marshalltown, and he helped to build the ball diamonds for them. His interests were playing golf, the Chicago Cubs, and everything about the Iowa Hawkeyes.Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosemary; his two sons, Don (Vicki) Meyer and Jeff Meyer; his grandchildren, Jillian Meyer, Allison Jensen, Michael Meyer, and Lindsey Meyer; his great-grandson, Blake Jensen; and his sister, Adele Bell of Manchester, CT. In death, he has rejoined his parents and a sister, Marilyn Mann.
