Wayne Payne, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the evening of October 20, 2022 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home and under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Services for Wayne will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Center Street Baptist Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Center Street Baptist Church on October 27, 2022. Memorials in Wayne’s name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. Wayne Dale Payne was born on July 25, 1932 to parents Floyd and Stella (Oles) in Truman, Minnesota. He attended school in Minnesota and graduated from Elmore High School.
Following his graduation, Wayne served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. During his time in the service, Wayne became a part of the Airborne Rangers.
On September 8, 1956, Wayne was united in marriage to the love of his life, Beatrice Weaver. Together they called Marshalltown their home and they raised their five daughters. Wayne was the proud owner and operator of Hilltop Heating and Air Conditioning. He took great pride in the work he did for those who he was trusted to do services for. He was a devoted member to Center Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and did the church maintenance.
In his free time, Wayne enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s events, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings, reading books, and telling stories. In his younger years he enjoyed playing football and running track and field including him setting a school relay record.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Kelly (David) Messenger, Robin (Terry) Anderson, Tracy Oller, Janae (Tim) Jelsma, and Alyson (Mark) Skahill; his grandchildren, Emily (Jon) Maiers, Brett Messenger, Derek Messenger, Aaryn Messenger, Tyler (Sarah) Anderson, Jordan (Jessa) Anderson, Kara (Noah) Swanson, Meredith (Brett) Stiles, Whitney (Josh) Neville, Ryne (Liddy) Oller, Ryan (Gwen) Jelsma, Andrea (Andrew) Gaumer, Emma (Mitch) Klocke, Emma Gosnell, and Jackson Skahill; his 27 great-grandchildren, and his sister Lola Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; his son-in-law, Terry Oller; his grandson, Jarrod Anderson; and his parents, Floyd and Stella Payne.
