Wayne Terrell, 84, of Elk Run Heights, Iowa, formerly of State Center, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in State Center, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, State Center Chapel in State Center, Iowa. Phone 641-844-1234Wayne W. Terrell was born on January 13, 1927 in State Center Iowa. He was the son of Elmer and Edith (Riemenschneider) Terrell. During World War II, he was drafted in his junior year of high school, he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific. Wayne graduated from State Center High School in 1946. On February 20, 1955 he was united in marriage to Joleen Pfantz, they made their home in State Center where they farmed for 50 years. They moved to the Waterloo area in 1999 to be closer to their children and grandchildren, he always enjoyed going to the grandchildrens activities and just spending time with them. Wayne was a charter member of the United Methodist Church in State Center and was involved in building the new church; he was in the church choir and served on many committees. Wayne was a member of the Harlan C. Pfantz American Legion Post #122 in State Center also the Evansdale Amvets Post #31, he served in the Honor Guard for 64 years, he was a member of the Polka Club, enjoyed dancing, football and watching westerns.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years Joleen, his daughters; Diane (Russ) Kohrs and Debra (Kent) Stackhouse and three grandchildren; Lindsay (Ethan) Wiechmann, Jessica and Brooke Stackhouse, two sisters-in-laws Marian and Doris Terrell and several nieces and nephews.In death, Wayne rejoins his parents, two brothers David and Maynard. He will be laid to rest at the State Center Hillside Cemetery.
