Wendy Von Spreecken

Wendy Sue Von Spreecken, 69, of Toledo, Iowa, passed away on August 30, 2026, under the care of Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.

Wendy was born on January 8, 1957, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the youngest daughter of Ross and Patricia “Pat” (Palmer) Von Spreecken.

Wendy was employed as an at-risk teacher in Florida for many years before returning to Iowa, where she then retired from a career as a Senior Accountant from Meskwaki Bingo, Casino, and Hotel. Wendy was united in marriage to Roger Waterbeck in 1999. Wendy enjoyed her many pets, watching hockey, reading, quilting, playing bridge, bird watching, and spending time with friends and family.

Wendy leaves behind a loving family that includes her brother Scott (Cathy) Von Spreecken of Lansing, MI, nephew, Peter (Austyn) Von Spreecken of Williamston, MI, nieces: Victoria (Aaron) Jones of Okemos, MI, and Kristin Von Spreecken (Christian Cini) of Muskegon , MI, six great nephews, and one great niece. First cousins living that went through South Tama School system Todd Stewart, Bob Stewart, and Ruth (McCollister) Coady. Also survived by her former husband and friend, Roger Waterbeck and his adult children Brian (Jill) Waterbeck, Shellsburg, IA, and Bridget Kress, Belle Plaine, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents, grandparents, Victor “Lloyd” and Lillie (Jackson) Palmer, Peter and Blanche Von Spreecken, and aunts Twila McCollister and Wynona Mason.

Memorials may be directed to the Tama County Humane Society in her name.
