Ernest “Wes” Shotzman, Jr., 67, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away the evening of March 15, 2022 at Southridge Specialty Care. He was under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Per the wishes of Wes and his family, cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 24 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Born Ernest Wesley Shotzman, Jr. on December 16, 1954 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was the son of Ernest “Ernie” Sr. and Mary Ann (Misee) Shotzman. He grew up in Fort Smith and graduated from South Side High School with the class of 1973. Shortly after, Wes enlisted in the United States Air Force and dedicated 20 years serving his country refueling jets. After meeting the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Corns, he relocated to Marshalltown, Iowa and the two were united in marriage on Friday the 13th of August 1999 at Riverview Park. Hardworking and dedicated, Wes worked several years at JBS – Swift and most recently at Menards, where he worked as an early morning stocker. In his free time, Wes was a hobby genealogist and an avid movie collector, preferring anything with John Wayne. He enjoyed the experience of deer hunting and loved listening to country music and talking about airplanes. Wes was helpful and dependable and will be deeply missed by his family. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 22 years, Patty; their children: Joseph (Kimberly) Corns of Ames, Willie Brittain of Marshalltown and Christopher Brittain of Centennial, CO; granddaughters: Brittney Spear and Hayley McCord, both of Ames; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Kobryn, Paislee and one on the way; his mother, Mary Ann of Charleston, AR; three brothers: Steven (Missie) Shotzman of Greenwood, AR, Kevin (Holly) Shotzman of Charleston, AR and Kelly Shotzman of Charleston, AR; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He will also be missed by his beloved Yorkie, Gizmo. In eternal life, Wes is reunited with his father, Ernie; his brother, Don Shotzman; sister, Debra Rhoades and his teacup poodle, Cookie.
