Westley Allen Underkofler

Westley Allen Underkofler, 25, of Woodward, died December 10th, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A niche side memorial committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, MAY 19th, 2014, (his 26th birthday) at the Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum. There will be no visitation. Born on May 19th, 1988, in Iowa City, he was the son of Thomas and Jaymie (Eich) Underkofler. He was born with a smile on his face and was always willing to go anywhere, help anyone and make a joke to get people laughing. Sports and NASCAR were a big part of his life. He loved playing basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, track and throwing the football around. Westley spent many nights watching games or races on TV or listening on his headphones- yelling out boos or cheers for the wins or losses. He enjoyed high-fiving people wearing his favorite sports teams and pick on those who did not. Westley was a showman and singer who dreamed of being on American Idol. He danced and his favorite move was breakdancing. A favorite of his was chocolate- or any sugary treat. A trip to a buffet with a dessert bar was sure to make his eyes widen. Faith was an important part of his life and he enjoyed church. He took gospel songs out to the world as well as the lessons he learned. Westley was very giving with himself, taking hospice training, participating in charity work, and even at his passing desired tissue donation to help others. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he belted out the carols for others to enjoy. Seeing all the lights and of course opening presents were his favorite activities. Surviving is his family at the WRC where he came as a young boy, his mother Jaymie Underkofler of Des Moines, brother Nathan of Marshalltown, grandmothers Colleen Thomas and Virginia Underkofler of Marshalltown, and grandparents Charles and Georgia Eich of Marshalltown, as well as aunts and uncles including Serena (Mark) Benda and Andy (Melissa) Eich of Marshalltown. In death, he rejoined his father, Thomas Underkofler and grandfather, Thomas Underkofler, DDS.
