William Bill Chantland, 80, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Iowa Veterans Home surrounded by his family.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be held at Pioneer Cemetery in Badger, Iowa at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Phone 641-844-1234.William Dean Chantland was born on April 19, 1932 in Humboldt, Iowa; he was the son of Carl J. and Cora M. (Myhre) Chantland. Bill attended school in the area of his birth and then attended college to be in the radio repair business. Bill served our country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954 in England. On October 25, 1958 Bill was united in marriage to Janice (Sanford) Chantland. Bill and Jan had lived in Badger, Iowa and then had lived in rural Marshalltown for the last 44 years. Bill had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1997 after 30 plus years of employment. Bill enjoyed his membership at the American Legion and New Hope Christian Church. Bill loved to golf, enjoyed farming and attending farm sales, always buying the bargain boxes. What he treasured the most was his family, especially his grand-children for which he hand-made several things.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Jan; his sons: Chris (Lori) of Traverse City, Michigan, Loren (Mary) Chantland of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Ben (Deb) Chantland of Junction City, Oregon; Bills grandchildren: Sara, Eric, Cassie, Annika, Korrina, Nathan, and Miriam; his siblings: Jeanette Larson of Humboldt, Iowa, Kermit Chantland of Humboldt, Iowa, Lawrence Chantland of Ogden, Utah, Mervin Chantland of Norwalk, California and John Chantland of Anaheim, California.Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Cora; his siblings: Katherine, Florence, Clifford, Gladys, Doris, Douglas in infancy and a granddaughter, Rebecca.
