William Clifton, 68, of State Center, died Saturday, June 16th, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20th, at the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on December 16th, 1938, at Stamping Ground, Kentucky, he was the son of Russell and Catherine (Powers) Clifton. He attended school at Versailles, Kentucky until serving our country proudly in the United States Marines Corps from 1956-1959. Mr. Clifton was a salesman and most recently program specialist at ISU parcel and post at the time of his death. William made Grand Island, Nebraska his home until moving to State Center in 1991. On November 6th, 1963, he was united in marriage to Betty Barnes in Gastonia, North Carolina. Later, on December 29th, 1993, he married Crystal Darrow Kelley in Nevada, Iowa. He treasured his family and enjoyed country music and woodworking. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife Crystal, three children: Karen (Wendel) Potter of Grand Island, William (Patricia) Clifton of LaVista, Nebraska, Felicia (John) Sullivan of Mason City, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his bonus children: Tim (Cathy) Kelley of State Center, Tony (Catherine) Kelley of Brentwood, California, and Shannon Norman (Darren Holley) of State Center, five grandchildren and his siblings: Fred, Robert, Ray, Sue, Shirley, Betty and Judy as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents and one brother, Gene.
