Brad was born on September 25, 1952 in Marshalltown, the son of William A. and Bette (Bousum) Etter. He attended McKinney High School in Texas before graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1970. He then attended Marshalltown Community College, where he played on the tennis team.

Brad was united in marriage with Connie Yantis on August 5, 1989 at Green Castle Lake. They were blessed with two children, Andrea and Dustin.

Brad worked for several electric companies, including Bryan Electric, Mellinger Electric, Brightway Electric E and S Electric, Meisner Electric, and Anderson Electric. He then worked as an electrician and carpenter for the Marshalltown Community School District for 34 years, retiring in 2015.

Brad was a member of First Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and played trumpet. He never read sheet music, instead played by ear. Brad played slow-pitch softball, both 14 and 16, eventually making his way into national tournaments. Along the way, he umpired many slow-pitch games. He also enjoyed tennis, fishing, crossword puzzles, and cheering on his sports teams – the Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeyes. Brad and Connie remodeled many houses during their marriage, including their own.

Brad was not one to share his feelings, but he was always there for his family. He loved his kids and cherished his titles of Grandpa and Papa.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents; triplet grandbabies, William, Lucas and Evelyn; and his sisters-in-law, Marlys Etter and Shelley Etter. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie; children, Andrea (Chad) Duncan and Dustin (Amanda) Etter; grandchildren, Zoe, Izabelle and Zachery Duncan and Xander and Zeke Etter.
