William Bill Hegdahl, 76, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5-7:00 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice or the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Born on November 4, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Bill was the son of Henry and Lela (Surface) Hegdahl. He received his education in the Grand Rapids area schools. He served our country in the US Army in the Korean Conflict. On November 16, 1952, he married Dorothy Fricke at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. They lived in Grand Rapids, MN, for a year after their marriage, and then returned to Marshalltown, where they have resided since 1954. In that year, Bill opened his business, Bills Wheel Alignment. His was very devoted to his business for 47 years. Bill retired in March of 2001. He enjoyed the family cabin in Grand Rapids and was a proud father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are Dorothy, his loving wife of 55 years; 2 sons, Denny (Penney) Hegdahl of Marshalltown, and Doug of Marshalltown; two grandsons, Nathan (Hollie) Hegdahl of Waterloo, and Ryan Hegdahl of Beaman; one great-grandchild on the way, due April 29th; several nieces and nephews, many business associates, and a host of friends. In death, he has rejoined his parents and his sister, Shirley Watt.
