William Nixon

William Earl Nixon, 68, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at MMSC while under the care of Iowa River Hospice and his loving family. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. William was born on August 6, 1940, in Rome, GA to William Clarence and Mary Ella (Pass) Nixon. He graduated from Rome High School and enlisted in the US Navy in July, 1959. He reenlisted in the Naval Reserves and served on the USS Coral Sea until 1965. On October 28, 1967, William married Jean Johnson in Rockford, IL. To this union, two children were born- Robert and Robin. William and Jean later divorced. William moved to Marshalltown in 1994. He worked at Swift and Co. for 7 years before retiring. He has worked for the last 5 years at Meskwaki Casino. William enjoyed riding motorcycles and vacationing. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert Nixon of Macon, GA and Robin Nixon of Marshalltown; his 6 grandchildren, Dustyn Nixon, Tyler Nixon, Sara Manecke, Cameron Braswell, Ryan Mason, and Hunter Nixon; his companion and caretaker of more than 10 years, Conchita Harms, as well as Conchitas family.
