William W. Overman

William “Bill” Wesley Overman passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday September 12, 2026 at Accurra Healthcare in Marshalltown.

William Wesley Overman was born May 13, 1945 in State Center Iowa. He was the son of Edith (Cowan) and Ben Overman. He was one of six boys born to the family.

Bill was united in marriage to Sandra Louise Pollock on November 26, 1966. They settled in Rhodes where they had 2 sons, John and Michael.

Bill became the mayor of Rhodes when he was only 25 years old, an office that he held for 9 years. When he resigned from the Mayoral position in 1979, he became the City Clerk for many years to follow. Bill supported the City of Rhodes in multiple capacities and was extremely proud of 2 specific projects that he worked on while he was in the Mayor’s office – The Rhodes Sanitary Sewer System, and the building of two Senior Housing Projects.

Bill worked for Lennox Industries for 49 years! After retiring in 2005, he returned to Lennox for another 13 years as a contractor consultant. He enjoyed the work, and many of the people he worked with. He was a respected member of the company. Bill was also a 50+ year Freemasonry member.

In his younger years, he liked to spend time in the garden, had an interest in flowers and was very interested in Astrological mapping. He mapped out many of his friends and family’s Astrological charts. He could also be found at the grandchildren’s sporting events often using a video recording device to capture the moments (we think it was as an excuse to have the newest technology).

Bill is survived by his sons John B. Overman (Elizabeth) and Michael Overman (Jenn); his grandchildren Chantel (Adam) Nicholson, Abra (Justin) Dougherty, Wesley (Megan) Overman, Benjamin (Klarissa) Overman, Nicholas Overman (Cheyenne) and Dayton Overman. 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Ben Overman, his lifelong love- Sandy Overman, his brothers and sisters in-law John L. Overman (Darlene), James “Frank” Overman (Bernie), Charles Overman, Gene Overman, Thomas Overman, and grandson Brandon Overman (Chandler).

Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Rhodes United Methodist Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
