William Fred Slifer

William Fred Slifer, 55, died Wednesday, August 20th, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 25th, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. There will be no visitation. Phone 641-844-1234.Born on June 19th, 1953 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Fred and Doris (Ream) Slifer. William, known as Fred, graduated from Marshalltown High School. He then honorably served his country in Vietnam as a Screamin Eagle Army paratrooper.Fred had lived in Oxnard, CA for several years before returning to Marshalltown. In Marshalltown, Fred worked many proud years as a butcher for Taylors Maid-Rite. He enjoyed his family, classic rock music, movies, and his very extensive DVD collection. Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his children Joshua James, Jeremy Slifer, Charlene Hause, Wendy Slifer, and Cory Slifer; his grandson Kayne Wolken; his sisters Helen Slifer and Denise Lyons; his brother Mike Slifer; many nieces, nephews, as well as many friends.In death he has rejoined his parents, and sister Brenda Terry.
