William Kent Smith

William Bill Smith, 79 of Albion passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a vehicle accident on June 22. A memorial gathering for Bill will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Albion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family at this time. Bill Smith was born on October 10, 1937 in Garwin to Wallace Sammy and Maxine Toad Smith. He grew up in Garwin and graduated from Garwin High School in 1956. Bill joined the Navy in the late fifties. He was married to Rochelle Tucker and they had two sons, Kurt and Kent. They were later divorced. He was also married to Audrey Smith and they were divorced as well. After the service; Bill worked for Fisher Controls (Emerson). He worked there until he retired in 1992. Bill was an avid outdoors man, enjoying fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden and raising short hair dogs. Left to cherish Bills memory is his life partner of 30 years, Charlotte Pyle; sons Kurt and Kent; sister Kathy (Ken) Johnson of Waterloo; grandchildren, Allie Smith (Hartwig), Jake Smith; three great grandchildren, Aiden, Addison and Alivia and his nephew Darren (Dorreen) Smith. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Maxine, brother Larry and sister Judy Monroe
