William L. Springer, 84, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Graveside funeral services will be at 5:00p.m. on Friday September 11, 2009, at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will be Friday, September 11, from 3:00 to 4:45 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice House of Marshalltown. Bill was a life time resident of Marshalltown, graduating from the Marshalltown High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. Bill graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1951. Bill married Nancy Lou Taylor on August 21, 1955, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Bill practiced law in Marshalltown and Mason City for over 50 years, retiring at the age of 71. Bill was a member of VFW Post 839, serving as a Judge Advocate, American Legion Post 46, and the Marshalltown Noon Lions Club, receiving the Iowa Lions Foundation, Warren Coleman Honorary Award. Bill will be missed by his beloved daughter Pamela (Roger) Poe, grandchildren Scott Poe, William Levis, Ashley (Jeremy) Bond, Hayley Poe, and Matthew Poe; and 2 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian, his wife Nancy, and his sister, Mary Alice Springer.
