Wm. Harlan Wignall, 72, of Marshalltown, former longtime Rhodes resident, died Tuesday morning, September 4th, at his home while in care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 7th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo, chaplain of the Iowa River Hospice officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following in the hospitality room of the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at a later date in the Eden Cemetery at Rhodes. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to his family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Harlan and his family. Ph 844-1234. Born on July 16th, 1935, in Marshalltown, he was one of four children born to William and Edna (Spencer) Wignall. He graduated from the Rhodes High Schools Class of 1953. Harlan was employed many years as a meat cutter at Chieftains in Tama and Curts Royal Blue in Marshalltown. He attended the Rhodes United Methodist Church. In the summer of 1990, they moved to Marshalltown. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Caroline, whom he married on March 21st, 1980, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, his children: Sabrina (Reid) Caudill of Shell Rock, Iowa, Gary (Cindy) Wignall of Marion, Iowa, Jorena (David) Vavra of Toledo, Lana Clement of Rhodes, Angela (Thom) Ford of Rhodes, Jill (Jeff) Welch of Marshalltown and Jack (Carey) Mage of Bethany, MO., step-children: Craig (Mary) Bear of State Center, Cheryl (Jeff) Rankin of Marshalltown, Tim (Lynne) Bear of Melbourne, Trudy Fricke of Marshalltown, 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother Bob (Linda) Wignall of Rhodes, sister Norma (Merlin) Klaas of Rhodes, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, sister Juanita Gibbs and son-in-law Danny Clement.
